Sony has opened pre-orders for the God of War Laufey Collector Box, the collector's edition of Santa Monica Studio's next game. The box costs $149.99 in the United States, according to VGC, and includes a light-up Faye statue, an illustrated card deck and a mini artbook. The detail that drew the most attention: the game is not included. Anyone who wants to play has to buy God of War Laufey separately.

What's in the box

PlayStation's official store page lists three items:

  • A light-up resin Faye statue. According to VGC, it is about 8 inches tall, shows Faye alongside Phranque and Rue, and lights up when connected to a USB port.
  • An "Oracle Deck" of 51 illustrated cards. VGC reports that the illustrations are by artist Megan Lara.
  • A mini artbook of concept art selected by the development team.

The store itself notes that the game is sold separately. There is also a limit of one box per order "due to high demand," and the page says household limits may apply.

Price and date

On the official UK store, the box is £129.99. VGC lists prices of $149.99 in the United States and €149.99 in Europe. The store page shows a date of February 16, 2027, the same day the game launches as a PS5 exclusive.

On the US store, God of War Laufey comes in two editions: Standard, at $69.99, and Digital Deluxe, at $79.99. The Deluxe adds a digital mini artbook, the digital soundtrack, the Dark Alchemy armor set, Dark Alchemy versions of the blade, bow and catalyst, and a resource pack. Standard owners can upgrade for $10. Pre-ordering any edition grants the Last Wish armor, the Phranque Golden Leaves appearance and a resource pack.

Together, the box and the Standard Edition come to roughly $220 in the United States. Prices vary by country, and Sony has not said in which other regions the box will be sold.

Why a box without the game drew a reaction

Collector's editions usually include the game, either on disc or as a code. This time, Sony is selling the collectibles as a separate product. Kotaku pointed out that the box has neither a disc nor a download code.

The idea is not new. Other companies have sold collector's boxes without the game, leaving buyers to choose the version (physical or digital) and the store. Rockstar did something similar with the GTA 6 collector's collection, which is also sold without the game. For some fans, though, paying $149.99 without getting the game feels like a high price for decorative items alone.

What we know about God of War Laufey

The game was announced in June during a State of Play and stars Faye, Kratos's wife and Atreus's mother. The February 16, 2027 date appears on the game's official page on the PlayStation website. For now, no PC version has been announced.
