Marvel's Wolverine launched on PlayStation 5 on September 15, 2026 and, despite divided reviews, got off to a strong start at retail. Insomniac Games' title had PlayStation's biggest physical launch in the UK this year and, according to an estimate from Alinea Analytics, sold about 1.9 million copies in its first three days. Sony has not released official numbers yet.

What the game is

Marvel's Wolverine is a third-person action game from Insomniac, the studio behind Marvel's Spider-Man, made in partnership with Marvel Games. It is a PS5 exclusive. Logan, voiced by Liam McIntyre, hunts for the secrets of a past he cannot remember, in a story that moves through Madripoor, the Canadian wilderness and Tokyo. Mystique, Omega Red and the Reavers are among the enemies PlayStation has shown. The cover art was created with comic artist Jock.

Estimated sales

The estimate was published by Rhys Elliott, an analyst at Alinea Analytics, and reported by Insider Gaming and Beebom. The key figures:

MetricAlinea estimate
Copies in the first three daysabout 1.9 million
Revenue in that periodabout US$130 million
Physical share22.9% of revenue
Top marketsUS 53%, UK 7%, France 5%, Canada 4%

If the math holds, Wolverine is PlayStation Studios' most successful new PS5 release of 2026 and, in three days, has already passed Death Stranding 2's estimated sales on the console. It still trails Marvel's Spider-Man 2, which sold 2.5 million copies in its first 24 hours in October 2023, according to figures Sony itself released at the time.

Keep in mind that this is an outside estimate based on market data, not a Sony figure. Official numbers, when they come out, may be different.

No. 1 in the UK

In the UK, which has an official retail sales chart, the game debuted at No. 1 among physical releases. According to Christopher Dring of The Game Business, cited by Push Square, it was PlayStation's biggest physical launch in the country in 2026 and the third-biggest for any game this year, behind only Resident Evil Requiem and 007 First Light.

The comparisons also show the gap to Insomniac's biggest hit: Wolverine's physical launch was about 60% smaller than Spider-Man 2's, slightly below Ghost of Yotei's and about three times larger than Death Stranding 2's.

Post-launch updates

Insomniac has already shipped fixes. One of the most common player complaints was too much on-screen guidance, such as the scent trails that point the way. Update 1.001.006, released in September, added an option to turn those trails off. Update 1.002.001, released on October 7 according to PSU, also lets players toggle story-related trails with the hint button and fixes crashes reported by the community.

What about the reviews?

Reviews praised the story, characters and visuals but criticized the repetitive combat. The average landed below Insomniac's previous games. The details are in our article on Marvel's Wolverine's review scores.

What we still don't know

Sony has not released official sales or commented on Alinea's estimate. There is also no announced PC version, a path Insomniac's previous games took one to four years after their PlayStation launch. The next market data point should be Circana's September ranking for the US, which has not been published yet.
