The question many Switch 2 owners have asked since GTA 6 was announced finally reached Nintendo, and the answer was a polite dodge. In an interview with Variety, Nintendo of America president Devon Pritchard said a version of the game for the hybrid console is a matter for Take-Two and Rockstar, and that she had nothing to announce.

What Nintendo said

Asked directly about the chances of GTA 6 coming to Switch 2, Pritchard avoided giving any hint. According to VGC and Insider Gaming, which reported on the interview, she answered that this would be a conversation for Take-Two and Rockstar and that she had nothing to announce at that moment. In the same conversation, she said Nintendo is still early in what Switch 2 is capable of.

The answer neither confirms nor rules anything out. It is the standard line from a console maker when the game belongs to another company: the owner of the franchise decides which platforms GTA 6 launches on.

What is already official

  • Release date: GTA 6 is still set for November 19, 2026.
  • Platforms: only PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S have been announced.
  • PC: Rockstar has not announced a PC version yet. The company's track record suggests it will come later, as we explain in our article on GTA 6 for PC.
  • Switch 2: no announcement from Rockstar, Take-Two or Nintendo.

Why the question makes sense

Switch 2 has already received demanding, mature games such as Cyberpunk 2077, Elden Ring and Resident Evil Requiem, VGC points out. Take-Two has not ignored the console either: it brought titles such as NBA 2K26 and Civilization VII to Switch 2, and CEO Strauss Zelnick has said the company may release other games on the platform, without mentioning GTA 6.

The series also has a history on Nintendo hardware. There were versions for Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS, and Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition came to the original Switch in 2022, as Insider Gaming recalls.

Why it is unlikely anytime soon

GTA 6 was built for current PlayStation and Xbox hardware, and Rockstar tends to focus a launch on a few platforms to polish it as much as possible. Some insiders claim there were exploratory talks about a port, but none of the companies has confirmed this. Former Rockstar open-world designer Jérémy Hartvick, speaking to VGC, doubts the idea makes sense: in his view, people who want to play GTA will buy the console the game is on, and a Switch 2 version would likely fall short of the others.

What we still don't know

There is no public indication that a Switch 2 version is in development. It is also unknown whether Take-Two is considering platforms beyond PS5, Xbox Series and the PC version the community expects. For now, anyone who wants to play on November 19 needs one of the two announced consoles.
