The GTA 6 launch trailer is only 90 seconds long, but so much happens on screen that many details were left for the second (or tenth) viewing. A day after its debut, outlets and fans went through the video frame by frame. Here are the details that show up in more than one analysis, separating what is on screen from what is still interpretation.
Jason works at Brian's marina
The trailer opens with Jason polishing a boat, and a sign on the way into the Leonida Keys points to Brian's Marina, Brian Heder's boatyard. Brian is the retired Keys smuggler who, according to Rockstar, rents Jason the house he lives in. In voiceover, Jason says he left the Army on bad terms and that people like him can't even get a loan, which, according to the analyses, helps explain why he takes jobs from Brian. See the character profiles in our Leonida and characters guide.
Lucia's ankle monitor
The trailer opens with Lucia calling Jason from prison. Later, in one of the couple's shower scenes, the camera shows an electronic monitor on her ankle. SVG and VGTimes highlighted the detail, and the most common reading is that Lucia leaves jail on parole or under monitoring. What it means in the game, for instance whether it limits where she can go, is speculation: Rockstar has not explained it.
A night mission in the swamp
One scene shows Jason and two other armed men crossing a swamp at night with night-vision goggles. SVG places the scene in Grassrivers, the fictional version of Florida's Everglades. Other analyses, such as VGTimes and Grandtheft.gg, raise the possibility that it is a flashback to Jason's military past. Both readings are possible, and neither has been confirmed.
Helicopters everywhere
Helicopters appear in at least four scenes, according to SVG. The main ones:
- A man in tactical gear pets a dog wearing protective goggles inside a helicopter, ahead of an operation on a ship.
- A helicopter drags a suspended load into the facade of a skyscraper.
- Jason, in a suit, clings to a helicopter above the city at night. VGTimes links the scene to the mission shown in the Extended Look.
- Jason walks across a rooftop as a helicopter explodes behind him.
Lucia in action
Besides the leap from a car onto a plane's landing gear, which already drew attention at the debut, Lucia is seen firing a grenade launcher at armored police vehicles. In another scene, she enters a bank vault with a partner who is not Jason and whose face is never shown. Grandtheft.gg suggests it may be a past heist, before her arrest, but that is also interpretation.
Raul Bautista, the bank robber Rockstar had already introduced, appears in an interrogation alongside Jason and Lucia.
Bike jumps and other gameplay hints
At around 0:48, Jason jumps off a ramp on a dirt bike. SVG speculates that this points to the return of GTA 5's Stunt Jumps, which numbered 50, but the trailer shows no on-screen prompt, and Rockstar has not confirmed the feature. A green iguana also appears briefly, one more animal for Leonida's wildlife.
What is confirmed
Rockstar states the trailer was captured on PlayStation 5, and analyses indicate it was the standard model, not the Pro. It is also confirmed that Justice composed the game's original score, as we covered in our story on the GTA 6 album. Everything else, from missions to mechanics, will only be settled on November 19, when GTA 6 arrives on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
