On August 27, Rockstar did something new: it premiered GTA 6 gameplay on Netflix, six hours before posting it on YouTube. The video runs just under half an hour and was captured on a base PS5. After weeks of rewatching it, here is everything it shows.

The format

  • Exclusive Netflix premiere, followed by YouTube and Rockstar's website six hours later.
  • An official runtime just under half an hour, according to Netflix.
  • Captured entirely in-game on a standard PlayStation 5, not a PS5 Pro.

The sequence

The presentation has its own story: Jason and Lucia head to a drug deal that goes wrong, and the video ends with the two shooting their way out in third person before cutting to the logo. In between, there is a long stretch of free exploration around Vice City.

What the video says about the state of the game

The biggest detail is not a mechanic but the hardware. Running almost half an hour of uninterrupted gameplay on a base PS5, less than three months before launch, is the kind of demo studios only show when optimization is well along. That weighs against the latest delay rumor.

Rockstar did not announce the runtime or contents before the premiere. Everything people knew came from the leaks the week before, and the company acknowledged that in its August 26 statement.

What was left out

  • No mention of GTA Online or any multiplayer component.
  • No store interiors, customization or inventory menus.
  • No new pricing or edition details; those had already been announced in June.
