Ubisoft has proposed closing RedLynx, the Finnish studio behind the Trials motorbike series, and announced 70 layoffs at Ubisoft Singapore. The news was published on October 14 by VGC and Insider Gaming, citing a company statement first reported by GamesIndustry.biz. Together, the two moves could affect up to 122 jobs and are the latest chapter in the restructuring the French publisher has been carrying out for months.
What Ubisoft announced
In the case of RedLynx, based in Helsinki, Ubisoft says it reviewed the situation of its studios, looking at current projects and long-term sustainability. It concluded that the team has no project underway and that downsizing would not be enough to make it sustainable. The company will therefore propose its closure, which could affect up to 52 people.
The closure is not final yet. Under Finnish law, companies with at least 50 employees that make decisions affecting jobs must go through so-called change negotiations with staff. The statement refers to "a proposal to close RedLynx in Finland, subject to the local change negotiation process."
In Singapore, the decision is to restructure and downsize the studio to make it more sustainable, with 70 positions cut to align the team with production needs. According to Insider Gaming, the company says the studio remains an important part of its global production network.
About the studios
RedLynx was founded in Helsinki in 2000 and became known for the Trials series, which started as browser games and grew on PC and consoles. Its big hit was Trials HD on Xbox Live Arcade, and Ubisoft bought the studio in 2011. Trials Evolution, Trials Frontier, Trials Fusion, Trials of the Blood Dragon and Trials Rising followed, the latter released in 2019 as the last main entry in the series.
In recent years, the studio's output has declined. RedLynx helped Massive Entertainment bring The Division 2 to Google Stadia, created the mobile game Gwen's Getaway, which was shut down in December 2024, and recently supported the port of Star Wars Outlaws to Nintendo Switch 2. In October 2025, Ubisoft had already announced up to 60 layoffs at the studio, which was to focus on mobile games.
Ubisoft Singapore was founded in 2008 and has worked on most Assassin's Creed games. The studio led development on Skull and Bones and Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced.
The context
The cuts are part of a broad restructuring at Ubisoft, which has been reducing costs and reorganizing its studios. The move comes during a difficult phase for the industry, with console sales down in the United States, as shown by the recent Circana report.
What is still unknown
- Whether the RedLynx closure will be confirmed at the end of the negotiations with staff, and when.
- What happens to the Trials brand, which has not had a main entry since 2019.
- Which Ubisoft Singapore projects will be affected by the cuts.
