The PC version of GTA 6 may arrive much sooner than Rockstar's track record suggests. On Tuesday (October 13), GamesBeat reported that Rockstar Games plans to release the game on PC in the first quarter of 2027, meaning between January and March. If that holds, PC players would wait four months at most after the console launch, set for November 19.
What the report says
The story, written by Alexander Lee, is based on four industry sources familiar with the studio's plans, who asked to remain anonymous to protect their relationship with Rockstar. According to GamesBeat, the PC version has to meet the same quality bar as the console version before it ships, which is why it would follow a few months later.
The report says nothing about the storefront (Steam, Epic or the Rockstar launcher), editions, system requirements or PC-exclusive features. It also gives no specific date: the information is limited to the quarter.
Rockstar did not respond to GamesBeat's request for comment. The news was picked up by VGC and Gematsu, which also treat it as an unconfirmed report.
Why this would be a change
Rockstar has always launched its games on consoles first and brought them to PC later, with long gaps:
| Game | Wait for PC |
|---|---|
| GTA IV | about 7 to 8 months |
| Red Dead Redemption 2 | just over 1 year |
| GTA V | about 1 year and 7 months |
| GTA 6 (according to GamesBeat) | up to 4 months |
In our analysis of when GTA 6 comes to PC, the GTA V and RDR2 pattern pointed to somewhere between late 2027 and early 2028. If GamesBeat is right, that wait gets much shorter.
VGC recalls an explanation given this year by John Ricchio, a former Rockstar producer on Red Dead Redemption, Max Payne 3 and GTA V: launching on consoles first is not a decision against PC but a way to manage resources, because the team knows the hardware limits from the start. He was describing the studio's approach in general, not this report.
What is confirmed
- GTA 6 launches on November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Take-Two has reaffirmed the date on its investor calls.
- Rockstar has never announced a PC version, whether in trailers or on the official website.
- There are no official system requirements. The "minimum requirements" lists circulating online have no traceable origin.
What we still don't know
We are still waiting on word from Rockstar or Take-Two. Take-Two usually answers questions about platforms on its earnings calls, but it does not tend to get ahead of Rockstar's announcements. It is also unknown whether the PC version would come with any extra content, as happened with the enhanced versions of GTA V.
Until then, this remains a well-sourced rumor: a multi-source report from a specialist outlet, but without official confirmation. We will update this story if Rockstar says anything.
