GTA 6 is a little over five weeks away from the date Rockstar locked in last November. Even so, a warning from one journalist has revived fears of a third delay. Here are the facts.

What is confirmed

  • Date: November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar announced the date in November 2025, when it moved the game from May 26 to November.
  • Reaffirmed: in its May 2026 earnings presentation, Take-Two said the launch remains on track for the announced date.
  • State of the game: in its August 26 statement about the leaks, Rockstar said the team is "almost there" and apologized for the wait.

Where the delay rumor comes from

After the CyberLeek leaks in August, a Portuguese journalist warned that the schedule could slip again. The argument is indirect: the amount of leaked footage would point to a game still being polished, and Rockstar has historically preferred delaying over shipping with problems.

The catch is that none of the leaks showed a dated build. Several clips were clearly old, and the official "Extended Look" on August 27 ran on a base PS5 with stable performance, which is the opposite of what a delayed game usually looks like.

A game that shows 26 straight minutes of gameplay captured on a base console, less than three months before launch, is rarely a game that is about to slip.

What to watch in the coming weeks

  1. Take-Two's next earnings report in early November. If the date changes, that is where it would show up first.
  2. A launch trailer. Pre-orders have been open since June 25, so the next big marketing beat is the final trailer before release.
  3. The game "going gold". Rockstar rarely announces it, but retailers usually make it obvious.
