Nintendo announced this week the Expansion Pass for Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave, the first paid content for the Switch 2 game. The pass costs $34.99, will be delivered in three waves through 2027, and Wave 1 is already available. A bundle with the base game costs $104.99 in the United States.

What was announced

According to Nintendo's official page, you need the base game, sold separately for $69.99, to use the pass. The waves cannot be bought individually: you purchase the whole pass, which unlocks each stage as it arrives. Prices are US prices and vary by country.

  • Wave 1 (available now): prototype weapons for the four heroes, inspired by the Heroes' Relics from Fire Emblem: Three Houses. According to Nintendo Life, each weapon is unlocked through a quest that starts in chapter 4 of each hero's story: Cai gets Dimitri's spear, Theodora gets Claude's bow, Dietrich gets Byleth's sword and Leda gets Edelgard's axe.
  • Wave 2 (late 2026): new outfits and the chance for the gods Aurora, Smyrnos and Jurah to join battles. Nintendo of America says "Winter 2026"; other outlets write "Holiday 2026".
  • Wave 3 (2027): new stories featuring Bertrand, Talimun, Orchel and Anatolia, plus new allies, classes and more, with no more precise date.

Game update 1.1.0 adds support for the pass and a shortcut to the eShop on the title screen.

What this changes

Wave 1 is small: it adds no new story or playable characters, only equipment, which helps explain why Nintendo shipped it on the day of the announcement. The weight of the pass lies in the later waves, especially the third, which promises new stories. For anyone still deciding whether to buy, it may be worth waiting to see what the next waves actually deliver, since Nintendo has only described the content in broad strokes.

What is still unknown

There is still no exact date for Waves 2 and 3. Details on the length and difficulty of the new stories have not been revealed either. We will keep following the story and update this article when Nintendo shares more.
